TCA Architects' AMLI Marina del Rey Wins Gold Nugget Grand Award for Best on The Boards Multifamily Community at PCBC’S 2014 Gold Nugget Awards

IRVINE, CA - TCA Architects celebrated a well-earned victory at the 51st annual Gold Nugget Awards after their project, AMLI Marina del Rey won “Best On-the-Boards Multifamily Community Under 100 dwelling units per acre (du/ac)”. The Gold Nugget Awards is an annual international awards competition presented by the Pacific Coast Builders Conference to recognize developers, architects, and land planners for their innovation and effectiveness in design and planning.

TCA Architects had five projects that were Awards of Merit winners, qualifying each as a finalist in this year’s Grand Awards competition, which is the highest number of nominations received since the firm was established in 1993.  TCA's four Awards of Merit went to G12 located in Downtown Los Angeles, CA for ‘Best on the Boards Mixed Use Project’; El Monte Veteran’s Village in El Monte for the ‘Best Affordable Housing Project’; Villas at ICIS in Glendale, CA and Domain in San Diego, CA for different size categories within the 'Best Multifamily Housing Project’ classification.

Judges Statements: “Love the connection to the water. The design artfully mixes retail, residential and water. A great framed view corridors through the building to the marina. The gateway element is a showstopper. The thoughtful use of materials integrates the design into a warm modern jewel. The project’s design inspiration is based on a maritime theme, influenced by waterfront “boathouse” structures. The rustic nature of the boathouse has been reinterpreted in a sophisticated application utilizing the warmth of wood siding with the permanence of a stone base, gently sloping roof forms and glass to invoke a place-making aesthetic that feels very much a part of the marina. Large corner windows and open rail balconies further help to blur the line between indoor and outdoor space.”

According to TCA President, Aram Chahbazian, “TCA’s design concept is reflective of the desire in Southern Californian to live close to the water and experience their surroundings. Our talented design team incorporated the overarching concept of waterfront place-making into a cohesive community, and we are honored to see it recognized by PCBC as a Gold Nugget Grand Award Winner.”

At ground level, the AMLI Marina del Rey plans call for wide, pedestrian friendly green spaces to bisect the development, preserving views of the Marina and encouraging foot traffic along the waterfront. Select buildings will have either a roof top deck or landscaped garden by MJS Design Group. The property will also feature pool decks, fireplace structures, monument walls, trellises, plazas and promenades.

The waterfront property, being developed by AMLI Residential, is scheduled for completion in 2017. The 10.4-acre site will be comprised of 585 units of mixed-use apartments arranged in six separate buildings, each to contain a lobby on the promenade with an elevator, clubhouse, and amenity space designed by H. Hendy Associates.

“Gold Nugget Award winners reflect our industry’s best, brightest and most innovative architects, planners and builder/developers,” said Judging Chairman and Gold Nugget ceremonies administrator Lisa Parrish. “We applaud them all.”
