COLLEGE PARK, MD - Gilbane Development Company has broken ground at Tempo, a 978-bed housing community geared toward students at The University of Maryland (“UMD”) in College Park.
The 8-story student community will include 296 units / 978 beds and 300 indoor parking spaces. The 2.05-acre site, located at 8430 Baltimore Avenue, is a short walk from campus, less than 0.1 mile from the campus edge and within a 5 minute walk from the School of Engineering, College of Computer, Math & Natural Sciences, and College of Information Studies serving over 42% of UMD’s undergraduate population. There is also a dedicated ride share pick-up and drop-off space located on-site adjacent to a covered pocket park which, in addition to public bikes and scooter parking stalls, offers an unparalleled transportation solution.
Tempo will be the first student community in College Park to offer five-bedroom units down to studios, will be fully furnished, and will offer private bedrooms with keyed entry and en suite bathrooms, in-unit washer/dryers, walk-in closets (in select units), stainless steel appliances, granite counters, high-speed internet (wired and wireless), and flat-screen TV. Leasing is by the bed, and Tempo will be professionally managed, with a diverse offering of activities to promote physical and mental fitness and wellness and a strong sense of community among students.
“We are thrilled to bring this exciting new student community to College Park and The University of Maryland,” noted Gilbane Development Company senior vice president Russell Broderick. “The outstanding, walkable location combined with unrivaled amenities and unit design will provide UMD students with a truly superior community in which to live, learn, and thrive. We are proud to invest in the College Park and Prince George’s County community with Tempo and our additional local projects, which currently total more than $350 million in development.”
Tempo is scheduled to open for student occupancy in August 2022 and will have a leasing office located at 7418 Baltimore Avenue opening during the summer of 2021.
