WASHINGTON, DC - Method Co., a top real estate management, development and design company rooted in hospitality, and JBG SMITH, a leading owner and developer of high-quality, mixed-use properties in Washington, DC, announced today the official opening of Whyle at 900 W Street NW. Whyle signifies the first location of the newly launched brand conceptualized by Method Co. that provides a unique alternative to traditional rental living. Re-envisioning current offerings in the short-term rental industry, while infusing the firm’s soulful approach to design, Whyle introduces a new generation of high-styled furnished apartments that can be booked for as little as 30 days or as long as a year.
“Whyle is reimagining the way that people view and experience furnished rental apartments,” said Randall Cook, the CEO and Co-Founder of Method Co. “We chose DC as our first location to launch because it’s a city that attracts people from all over the world for varying lengths of time. In the past, short-term residents only had two housing options: either lease at a rental building or book short-term accommodations that might not feel so welcoming. We are filling a need in the market for high-design residences, customized to feel like home, that offer flexibility for different stay lengths with as little as a 30-day commitment.”
Located in the U-Street Corridor of the Shaw neighborhood, Whyle is situated within an industrial-style development featuring two towers designed by New York-based Morris Adjmi Architects and developed by JBG SMITH. Now available for booking, the 95 one and two-bedroom apartments at Whyle have been thoughtfully designed with custom furniture, handpicked artwork, full-sized kitchens and modern appliances that appeal to those in need of upscale short-term housing. Inspired by Method Co.’s penchant for hospitality, Whyle also offers a wide variety of amenities and services curated to provide the convenience and beauty of home.
The design of Whyle is central to the upscale lifestyle that residents will experience. The public areas and amenity spaces are inspired by the architecture’s cool tones and industrial qualities. In the lobby, soft peach plaster walls and tan leather seating balance the monolithic concrete flooring and patinated metal cladding. The concierge desk is clad in a rough troweled stucco and topped with a steel blue-grey glazed counter edged in exposed charcoal lava stone to emphasize the nature of material.
In the apartments, a mix of one and two-bedroom floor plans ranging from 573 square feet to 1,077 square feet offer full-sized kitchens and modern European upscale integrated appliances in a beautifully appointed space. Designed to utilize pure materials with clean lines and subtle details, the apartments take inspiration from the building’s aluminum façade and factory-style windows. The steely petrol blue dressers and deep teal headboards found in the bedrooms and forest green credenzas in the living rooms add depth and contrast to the spaces. To balance the color palette, warmer tones and textures are introduced with natural jute rugs, sand colored sofas, velvet armchairs framed in cerused oak, and solid walnut nightstands – cultivating the comforts of home. The rooms also feature a mix of custom new pieces, collected vintage and classic modern designs, including contemporary and custom-designed furnishings from Ercol and GUBI; antique elements such as vintage Turkish rugs; high-design lighting from Workstead and Marset; and unique artwork selected by LUMAS Gallery. Equipped with modern conveniences and amenities, all apartments include smart TVs and Bosch washer and dryers.
Residents will also have access to a full suite of amenities including a rooftop lounge and pool, a world-class fitness center complete with top of the line TechnoGym equipment, Peloton bikes and a yoga studio. Additional services include housekeeping, onsite parking and a variety of additional signature services, including a bike share program, an artisanal coffee program with La Colombe, a 24-hour concierge and recurring resident receptions in partnership with local vendors.
Known as DC’s epicenter for culture, music, and cutting-edge restaurants, Whyle is located conveniently in the historic Shaw District, near a variety of public transportation options and just minutes from downtown and the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. The area boasts trendy restaurants, locally-owned boutiques and a lively bar scene. Popular establishments like the iconic 9:30 Club, Lincoln Theater, Landmark’s Atlantic Plumbing Cinema, Right Proper Brewery and brand-new Whole Foods are all within walking distance from Whyle.
