National Affordable Housing Management Association Honors Boston Heights Affordable Housing Community With Vanguard Award

BENBROOK, TX - Boston Heights, an affordable, 165,000-square-foot garden-style complex, was named the winner of the ‘Affordable Housing Vanguard Awards’ by the National Affordable Housing Management Association (NAHMA) in the ‘New Construction, Large Property’ category. Recognized for bringing cost-effective, convenient and eco-friendly living to the surrounding community, the 144-unit development was built by KWA Construction and is the first affordable multi-housing project with LEED Gold certification in the Fort Worth suburb of Benbrook, Texas

“With the cost of living continuing to rise across the country and the unpredictable prices of building materials, the importance of affordable housing cannot be overstated,” said Brian Webster, President of KWA Construction. “Boston Heights winning this honor proves the efficacy of affordable housing and its ability to transform neighborhoods and the lives of residents.”

Developed by OM Housing, LLC and designed by BGO Architects, Boston Heights was built with features meant to reduce its impact on the environment, including low-emitting VOC building materials, enhanced insulation and energy-efficient windows, as well as native-plant landscaping and high-efficiency irrigation. The one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments are furnished with ENERGY STAR® appliances, high-efficiency lighting and water-saving fixtures that can lower utility bills. This project boasts a plethora of amenities and residential services, including an extra-large clubhouse with a community center, kitchen and audio-visual equipment for social events, along with separate spaces for business, fitness and children’s activities. There is also a pool with a water feature, barbecue grills, playscapes and lush landscaping.

The NAHMA’s annual ‘Affordable Housing Vanguard Awards’ recognize newly developed or significantly rehabbed affordable multifamily housing communities that showcase exceptional design and resourceful financing. Recipients were selected by a judging panel of distinguished NAHMA members from across the country and were recognized at an awards ceremony at the association’s biannual ‘Top Issues in Affordable Housing’ conference in October in Washington, D.C.
